The Buckley Long Shot is one of the most recognizable horse racing gambling machines produced by the Buckley Manufacturing Company during the Golden Age of American coin-operated amusement machines. Introduced during the late 1930s and refined through the 1940s, the Long Shot combined mechanical engineering, horse racing excitement, and gambling into a cabinet that became a fixture in taverns, clubs, casinos, and other adult gaming locations throughout the United States. Unlike traditional three-reel slot machines, the Long Shot challenged players to wager on the outcome of a simulated horse race. Each game featured multiple horses, changing odds, and the anticipation of a mechanical race that gave every play a unique feel. The combination of visible moving parts, attractive artwork, and variable odds made the Long Shot one of Buckley's most successful horse race machines.
